I have consistently maintained a solid academic standing, as evidenced by receiving the Presidential Scholarship and inclusion in the School of Allied Health Science Dean’s List for multiple semesters. I am committed to maintaining a GPA of at least 3.5 while managing a demanding schedule, which showcases my exceptional work ethic and determination. I was inducted into the Phi Sigma Theta National Honor Society as a lifetime member, which further attests to my academic prowess and dedication to maintaining high standards in all my endeavors. I have been in college since BSSP (Business Scholars Summer Program) so I had the opportunity of working with companies and firms. I have had the opportunity of networking early on and have internships lined up as well. Since the semester started, I have faced some challenges balancing classes and organizations. I had to take a step back and focus.

I’m currently enrolled in 18 hour classes and apart of Study Abroad. I am going to experience South Africa this summer too!

I have had the best experience here at Hampton University!

Hampton gives a lot of opportunities to the students here by bringing in businesses and people in high positions so we can have access to these great opportunities and people. I’ve been able to hear Taraji P. Henson and Da’Vinchi talk about mental health, how it affects college students, and the ways to cope with mental health today.

Also, Kamala Harris spoke to the Hampton students about how college students must be highlighted in today’s political climate because we are the next generation of doctors, lawyers, voters, and more. I’ve also had a great time here socially. I have been trying new things and putting myself in positions I thought I would never do. Like trying out for the freshman fashion show, tryouts are in front of a whole crowd of people, and sometimes I get a little anxious in front of crowds, but trying out made me more comfortable with being uncomfortable. I have had some challenges with some classes here at Hampton, but I have had the help of my friends and classmates to keep me on the right track, and I ended my first semester with a 3.1 GPA.

Hampton University has so many great people here who want to see you thrive, and I have met a lot of them. I believe I will have lasting connections with my friends here because we all want the same thing. Which is to be successful at whatever we do in life. And why not stay in touch with successful people? Hampton University was the right choice, and I have had a fantastic first year. So, If you are ever considering coming to an excellent HBCU, come down to the Home by the Sea.

Michelle Kabugu

Since becoming an active member of my university's National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) club, I am now honored to serve as the Public Relations Officer. This journey has been enriching, allowing me to work with my fellow officers to develop experiences beyond the ordinary. We have been dedicated to ensuring our members are exposed to exceptional opportunities such as networking events and developing professional skills. I am part of the Entrepreneur Club, where I've connected with like-minded students fueled by a shared passion. This vibrant community is a melting pot of creativity and ambition, emphasizing the strength of unique ideas. Whether talking about some of the most successful Shark Tank deals or learning what it takes to run a business, I have broadened my understanding while building a supportive network of friends who share my ambitions and the joy of pursuing our passions. This organization has taught me the importance of making time for my passions, which is essential for personal growth.

On the academic side, I got accepted into the Professional Program in Accounting (PPA), which has marked a pivotal chapter in my college journey. This unique program allows me to pursue my Bachelor's and Master's degrees together within three years. The PPA adventure has been a dynamic adventure filled with opportunities. We have had companies from the Big Four come over, and we get to network with employees and partners, which has been a significant experience for me. I learned a lot of valuable information and skills that I even apply in my daily routine. As I reflect on my college journey so far, I am grateful for the opportunities I have received. Each challenge has been a stepping stone, contributing significantly to my personal and professional growth.

Sloan Williams

I am currently a sophomore in the Business Honors Program at Texas A&M University, where I have the opportunity to take advanced classes, attend professional development events, and complete a Signature Work project. Along with the Business Honors degree, I plan to major in marketing and minor in sport management. Due to my dedication and work ethic, I have a cumulative GPA of 3.8. I enjoy being involved in various activities and organizations on-campus. Last semester, I had the privilege of being a Peer Leader in the Mays Business Honors program. As a Peer Leader, I worked with a partner to teach a class for a small group of freshmen. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience as I was able to use all that I learned my freshman year as I mentored the freshmen in my class. I am in Sisterhood of Aggie Mentors, an organization that pairs members with youth in the Bryan-College Station area to foster mentorship. I joined this organization last semester because I love interacting with kids. Now that I have completed new member training, I am excited to get matched up with my mentee. I am also a member of National Scholar Ambassadors and the Business Honors Recruiting Committee. In these organizations, I combine my love for A&M and helping people by interacting with high school seniors to assist them in their college decision journey. Through National Scholar Ambassadors, I have the opportunity to attend events hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Recruitment, such as panels and lunches, with prospective National Scholars and their families. As a member of the Business Honors Recruiting Committee, it is my responsibility to call prospective Business Honors students and give tours of Mays Business School to prospective students and their families. In both of these roles, I am able to share my Aggie story, inform prospective students about A&M, and answer any questions they may have. In addition to school, I focus on discovering what I want to do in the future. My career goal is to work in the sports industry. I enjoy networking with professionals in the industry to learn about their roles and receive advice.

Last semester, I started working as a Marketing Student Assistant for Texas A&M Athletics. My personal objective is to positively contribute to the exciting atmosphere of A&M Athletics and to enhance the 12th Man fan experience. In this role, I work various A&M sporting events and contribute to on-campus marketing efforts. At sporting events, it is my responsibility to execute marketing and sponsorship elements and answer fans’ 12th Man Rewards questions. For on-campus marketing efforts, it is my responsibility to promote A&M Athletics events and 12th Man Rewards to students while giving away products from our sponsors. Last month, I worked as an Events Intern for the Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl. In this role, I witnessed first-hand all the effort that goes into hosting a bowl game. My main responsibilities were to assist the Events Coordinator in the planning and execution of all events during bowl week and to set up hospitality lounges at both teams’ host hotels. After an application and interview process, I was fortunate to be selected as one of twelve Texas A&M students to participate in an internship program for the 88th Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic. I collaborated with a partner to execute a grassroots marketing campaign in assigned locations throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area. We created and researched a “one percent better” idea that we presented to select members of the Cotton Bowl staff. Along with the other Texas A&M students, I made gift bags for patients at both teams’ hospital visits, helped set up at The Big Play Breakfast, and contributed to various stadium operations. I am beyond grateful for both of these experiences and I look forward to many more as I continue to pursue a career in the sports industry.
